Over my years as a DJ I have been blessed with the opportunity to play at some of the best wedding venues in Essex. As a professional wedding DJ Essex has offered me so many amazing venues and spaces in which to hone my craft, all the while watching endless happy newlyweds and their loved ones dance the night away. Nothing gives me greater pleasure than to watch my years of experience come to fruition when the dance floor starts to fill, culminating in a packed dance floor going crazy and dancing like maniacs! It is moments like these that make my job so magical!
So in homage to the great county of Essex, I have picked my favourite top 7 best wedding venues in Essex that I have had the privilege to DJ at. There have been so many great venues over the years, but these 7 venues hold extra special memories for me!
Le Talbooth, Dedham
Established in 1952, Le Talbooth is the flagship of the Milsom Hotel chain, and after one visit you can see why! This absolutely stunning building sits beside the equally beautiful River Stour and offers award-winning food in its restaurant, which is nearly always fully booked- testifying to how good it is! This venue is available to hire for weddings, and the weddings I have DJ’d at here have always been incredible! If I am choosing my top 7 best wedding venues in Essex then I have to start here…if you are looking for the perfect venue for your wedding then Le Talbooth should be top of your list!
Villiers Barn, Thorpe-le-Soken (Image Below)
What can I say about Villiers Barn? I love everything about it! This fully renovated Grade II barn and Georgian house are set in stunning grounds and the owners, Jonathan and Juliet, have been in the wedding industry for over 25 years so know exactly what they are doing! They refurbished and opened this absolutely stunning venue in 2021. They have created such a beautiful venue to get married in, and the attention they give couples is second to none. They even go out of their way to look after suppliers (I am proud to be a recommended supplier at this venue), with each supplier having their own access door to the venue! Could not recommend this venue enough.
Maison Talbooth Hotel, Dedham
Just a few minutes walk away from its sister venue Le Talbooth (see above), the Maison Talbooth Hotel is an iconic 19th-century country house is set right bang in the middle of ‘Constable Country’, this really is a beautiful part of the world. This unique hotel has been the setting for many weddings, and I have been lucky enough to have played at quite a few of them! This is such an intimate wedding venue, it always feels like I’m actually playing a house party whenever I’m there! As a wedding DJ Essex has shown me many amazing venues, but how many of them come with a spa and pool house available to the wedding party? This venue does! Love, love, love this venue!
Hylands House, Chelmsford (Featured Image)
Hylands House is a Grade II listed neoclassical stately home that has been a favourite wedding venue for Essex couples for many years. It is set in Hylands Park, a huge country park just outside of Chelmsford, that used to host the V Festival every year. If you ever dreamed of getting married at the traditional huge Essex stately home then this is the venue for you! The immediate grounds are stunning and there is so much history and character in the main house. And when it comes to starlit dance floor hire Essex is spoilt as the Grand Pavilion is the ideal reception room for this type of flooring! In fact, this room typically used for the reception can be arranged in many different ways to fit in with your theme. Obviously, I am biased but my unique starlit dance floor does truly look amazing at this venue!
Hatfield Place, Hatfield Peverel
Easily one of the best wedding venues in Essex, Hatfield Place is a stunning Georgian country house that sits in 15 acres of really well-maintained gardens. This is definitely the kind of place I would buy if I won the lottery! You can tell there has been no expense spared on the venue, the owners have really created an absolute stunner of a wedding venue to rival any in the county. Definitely deserves its spot on my top 7 best wedding venues in Essex!
Houchins, Coggeshall
You may not know this, but a few years ago I had started to drift away from being a wedding DJ, concentrating more on DJing at local clubs. I took a booking at Houchins and in one night my love of DJing at weddings came flooding back! That booking completely reignited my spark to DJ weddings again. I can’t give higher praise, and a lot of that was down to the amazing team here! This venue is elegant, refurbished Grade II farmhouse that comes with incredible accommodation for the wedding party, so you can stumble straight from the dance floor to your room at the end of the night!
Captains Wood Barn
For my last pick for my best wedding venues in Essex, I have gone with something a little different! Captains Wood Barn is unique and completely different from all of the other venues mentioned as it strips everything back to basics (in a beautiful way!) You can have the ceremony in the forest, have a ride round the grounds on a tractor trailer, eat in the barn, party outside (whatever the weather, as the dance area is undercover but still open at the sides), and finish with a bonfire at the end of the night where you can roast marshmallows! This is a private property where the owners still live on site, so they only accept a limited number of weddings per year, making this not only one of the best wedding venues in Essex but also one of the most fun and exclusive!
